What the five dimensions measure
The score out of 100 is made up of five dimensions worth 20 points each. They are not weighted equally in practice, because the weakest one usually decides whether anything you put in place will work.
Decision load
How much of this business runs through you, and whether anyone other than you has authority written down rather than assumed. If every decision above a certain size waits for you, a room that meets four times a year changes nothing in between.
The question you’d bring
Whether you have a real mandate or a general wish for input. Advisors work on questions. A room assembled without one turns into a monthly performance of business, and you will feel it by the third meeting.
Evidence
Whether an outsider could be brought up to speed without a month of preparation. If the accounts are ninety days old and the margin picture lives in your head, you will spend the first two meetings explaining the business rather than deciding anything in it.
Capacity to act
Whether the business can execute what it is told. A board that recommends five things into an organisation that finishes one becomes a standing reminder of what has not moved, which is worse than no board at all.
Exposure
What a funder, a buyer or an incoming chair would find and put a price on. Customer concentration, key person risk, whether the assets this business depends on are actually held by the business. These get discovered eventually. Better that you find them first.
What happens after you finish
Worth knowing before you start, because it is short and there is no catch at the end of it.
Your result appears on screen the moment you finish. You do not wait for an email to see it.
A PDF report arrives within about thirty seconds. It repeats every answer you gave, so it is worth keeping and worth forwarding.
The report names your weakest dimension and the engagement shape that fits your situation and your budget, which are two different questions.
Nobody calls you. If you want to talk it through you reply to the email, and it comes straight to me.
The newsletter is a separate opt-in and you have to confirm it before you receive anything.
Common questions
How long does it actually take?
About six minutes. Twenty-five questions across six short screens, all multiple choice, nothing to type until the end. There is no way to save and return, so start it when you have the time.
